May 14, 2026 — United States, China. Donald Trump is in Beijing today for a high‑stakes summit with China’s President Xi Jinping, where the two leaders held more than two hours of talks at the Great Hall of the People. Xi warned Trump that mishandling Taiwan could lead to “clashes and even conflicts,” a message delivered despite an otherwise warm and ceremonial welcome. Trump is attending a state banquet tonight alongside major U.S. business leaders, including Elon Musk and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, as discussions continue on trade, Iran, and the future of U.S.–China relations.
Trump walked through Beijing today with cameras watching, smiling as he toured the Temple of Heaven. Xi told him that Taiwan was China’s “most important issue,” and the words felt heavy in the air. Trump said the talks were “great,” but the warning behind them was clear and sharp. The world felt big around them, and the future felt small as reporters were left without answers of talks about Taiwaan.
